Survey analysis

Name: Jonny Moore
Age: 16

This man is called Jonny Moore, who is 16 years old and lives in Jersey.

Jonny is a man who loves to socialise on the weekends but in the evenings after school when there is no football on he enjoys watching all sorts of different films with his friends. His favourite film genres are thriller and horror.

As Jonny Moore is a fan of Thriller films i decided to ask him a few questions in order to help me create my own opening sequence in this genre.

1) What is your reason for naming thriller as one of your favourite genres?

The main reason that I chose thriller is because it keeps you on edge all the time, it makes you want to carry on watching. The story line of thriller films rarely get boring and fail to lose my full attention, this is because thriller films are usually full of action.

2) What would you recommend for me to avoid whilst i am making my opening sequence so i dont make it too unrealistic?

For me what makes thriller films so good is that they keep you on edge all the time and always fail to lose my full attention. I would recommend that you have lots of interesting epic music and lots of fast changes in camera angles, to keep the person watching on edge. I would also suggest that you record in a interesting location that is different.

3) What would you recommend me using in my opening sequence?

For you to really attract the audience to your opening you should try to use some special effects this will make the audience feel wowed, also you need to use lots of props generally just to make your opening look better. I would also try to film in more than one setting for variation in the opening sequence.

4) And finally, what sort of age group do you think i should target?

It is really up to you but i would recommend your target audience to be from the age of 16 and above. This way you have a wider ranged target audience which will help when making improvements for your next sequence you make. Also having a target audience of 16 allows you to target young years so you would have a wider range of people watching.

Chainsaw masacre Screen grabs

What i like about this shot is that it looks like the police have taken another step forward in their investigation as they have now found more evidence which was used in the murder. I like the fact that they have used a chainsaw as it makes the shot more gruesome which is also helped with the black and white background effect.
I like this shot as it now shows the scientifc part of the police investigation into the murder. The close ups on the evidence that the police have shows that the murderer is close to being found. Again the black and white effects that are used make the pieces of evidence look more fascinating as more detail is shown in the image.

This shot is fascinating as it shows a close up on parts of an old skelleton. This image really tells the audience that there is going to be lots of deaths in the film, which for some, makes them keep on watching to see how these deaths occured. The black and white effects used makes the skelleton look alot older and more scary to look at.

This shot is interesting as the long shot used sets the scene and shows a dead body lying on the floor with people examining it. This looks to be the murder scene where the police have taken over and have began to do their investigation.

The image that i have chosen here shows death and murder. The skeleton and bones around it reveal a horror genre because of the dead person and its bones. I like this shot of the skelleton and the glasses because it resembles a murder and it gets you intreged therefore you want to find out more about the killing, so you want to keep watching.

I  chose this shot because it shows that a police investigation is going on after which highlights that there could be murder that has taken place. The low angled camera shot is used here looking up at the police line to really show that an important investigation is going on and for people to be aware that the police are there.
